Siem Reap Sees nearly 50% Rise in International Tourists in January 2024 Compared to Last Year
Siem Reap – International tourist arrivals in Siem Reap increased by nearly 50% in January 2024 compared to the same month last year, while national tourist numbers saw a decrease.
The Siem Reap Provincial Department of Tourism released a report on February 5, 2024, detailing the visitor statistics. According to the report, Siem Reap welcomed 115,532 international tourists in the first month of the year, marking a 49% rise from January 2023's total of 77,436 visitors.
However, the report also highlighted a downturn in national tourism, with the number of domestic visitors dropping by more than 25% from the same period last year. January 2024 saw 153,900 national tourists, a decrease from 206,000 in January 2023.
Despite the dip in domestic visitation, Siem Reap's iconic attractions, including the temples, Kulen Mountain, Kbal Spean natural resort, Tonle Sap Lake, and various community resorts across cities and districts, attracted nearly 270,000 tourists from both Cambodia and around the globe.
This increase in international tourism is a positive sign for Siem Reap, indicating a robust recovery and growing global interest in Cambodia's rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.
